About On-Scene
ON SCENE 2008. All of us together. Working side by side. The relationship between law enforcement, fire fighters and emergency medical services is vital to us all. We are relied upon; expected to react to every situation without hesitation, putting the health and safety of others before our own. It is the integrity of this common role that has brought ON SCENE 2008 to fruition. From its very inception wherein Chief Cal Johnston called together representatives from each partnered agency, including the RCMP, Regina Police Service, Regina Fire Department, the RQHR-EMS, the Canadian Police Research Centre and the Law Enforcement Training Society of Saskatchewan, there was immediate agreement on support for and interest in this project.
The goal has remained clear - frontline, hands-on, collaborative training. The Steering Committee identified the importance of making ON SCENE 2008 viable and relevant to all frontline personnel and has committed to this objective. A survey was created and disseminated to several police, fire and EMS agencies in order to establish what was important on the frontline. The results showed common training concerns and needs throughout each agency. ON SCENE 2008 is being developed to address these training requests and offer delegates the opportunity to not only take in important information, but observe and even participate in live training scenarios.
There will be Keynote speakers, brought in to address important topics creating common challenges for all involved professions. ON SCENE 2008 will also offer break-out sessions for Police, Fire and EMS which will focus on the specific issues identified by each profession. Perhaps the most exciting aspect of this conference, however is the inclusion of a full day of live, training scenarios designed to focus on the very purpose of ON SCENE 2008: Improving inter-agency communication and relationships at the most fundamental level by learning, together. Recognizing the need to be constantly evaluating and evolving our “toolbelts”, ON SCENE 2008 will also include a tradeshow component, with demonstrations, interaction and participation of vendors in the training scenarios.
ON SCENE 2008 promises to be THE annual training event and opportunity for Protective Services Personnel in Canada. Be part of this exciting opportunity. Mark your calendar. Write it in your budget. Be there.
